Our History

Co-founded in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1952 by Herbert and Ursula (Sally) Steenberg, Steenberg Homes came from simple beginnings. As a secondary business to the Steenberg family dairy-cattle sales farm operation, business began with one home on display (known in those days as a trailer) on the east side of Fond du Lac near St. Agnes Hospital. In 1961, Herbert Steenberg died in a terrible auto accident. At that time, Sally Steenberg became President of the Company and with the help of her son W. D. (Bill) Steenberg, only 18 years old, continued to run the business. In 1970, Bill Steenberg took full ownership of the company.

Today Steenberg Homes has 5 Sales Outlets, employs over 65 people and provides housing to over 500 Wisconsin families a year.

The company operates in all facets of the factory built housing industry, with sales in Modular homes, Sectional homes, Single Wide homes, and Pre-Owned homes. Steenberg Homes also provides additional products and services associated with the industry. Steenberg Homes also provides a statewide network of factory built home listings. Steenberg pioneered this service in the late 1970’s.

Steenberg Homes has become the largest homebuilder in Wisconsin and retains its place as the largest factory built housing retailer in the Midwest! The company’s philosophy is to provide quality, affordable housing to midwestern families in a company atmosphere that is professional, pleasant, and comfortable.

New homes range in size from 750 sq ft. to 3,000 (plus) sq ft and priced from the mid $30,000 range to over $300,000. Used homes are available from as little as $2995.

Bill Steenberg, Steenberg Homes’ President, also owns four manufactured home communities, containing almost 800 sites, which are located in North Fond du Lac and Sheboygan. His daughter, Julie Steenberg Ramge, has been working for Steenberg Homes since 1992 and now operates the four communities.

Steenberg Homes attributes its success to the hard work and dedication of its employees, its strong business and financial ties, and its statewide market notoriety.
